December 6, 2024 marked a momentous time in the nation’s history with the official turnover of the original Murillo Velarde 1734 Map to the Republic of the Philippines by Mel Velasco Velarde, Chairman of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC) and the NOW Group of Companies.
He was joined by former Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio in the ceremony titled “The Sacred Rite: A Covenant of Repatriation and Custody of the Murillo Velarde 1734 Map.”
The original Murillo Velarde 1734 Map was received by His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Marie Louise Araneta-Marcos at the Malacañan Palace.
